Default Frustration With Human Players

Wow, last night I was reminded how frustrating it can be to actually play with people in this game (as opposed to henchmen).

I had just finished the mission part of the mission and bonus in Gates of Kryta, and went back to Kryta to join a group for the bonus afterward (the other group didn't know where the bonus was so we all agreed to just do mission).

Some guy said he was looking for a group to do bonus as well, but didn't know where it was (should have been my first clue) so he invited me. We spent the next 30 minutes looking for someone who knew where the bonus was.

Finally found someone who said they knew, so off the 6 of us went.

In the end, no one knew where it was, we went through the entire main mission again (that I had just completed), and the guy who started the group left half way into the mission! Said he had other things to do.

We actually did quite well without him (I was the highest level in the group), but never did the bonus.

When we got to Lion's Arch, I complained about "I thought we were going to do the bonus" and several of them told me to stop whining and that I could always go do it later, even though that is the only reason we went out to begin with!

What a waste of an evening, doing the same mission twice, getting no experience the 2nd time (or only a tiny bit), then getting attitude when I complained about it.

Henchmen are really starting to look good from over here.

Arrrgghh!

Wait until you get to the more difficult missions. Repeating a mission will get very familiar.
Bonus for Gates of Kryta
Take the pig to the left just outside the starting gate with you, and then listen to the boy talking about his lost pig, then take the pig to the boy. Once you deliver Oink to the boy turn left and talk to his father. He will tell you that there is a wrecked Orr ship in a cove off to the southwest. Exit the town heading towards the beach with the Mergoyles and Lighting Drakes. Off to your left, where the towns archer guards are posted is a path that will lead you down to water level. Follow it for some distance, carefully fighting the Drakes you encounter until you reach the wrecked ship. There at the ship you will find a chest, inside is the Tome you are searching for. You have to return the object to the kid's dad to complete the bonus.

Thank you so much, Auntie I! I appreciate the detailed and clear info on the bonus mission.

Perhaps I won't give up on human players just yet!

In some of the missions you will find it extremely difficult to do with henchies. It's possible but very difficult. Patience is the key.
Even one other human player can make a big difference. One person pulls while the other stays back with the henchies. Separating out groups becomes easier.

The bonus info is available on the forum. Try searching for the mission name and bonus. That's where I got most of my information. Of course being the anal person that I am I then copied it to a file on my computer so that I'd have it.

The frustrating part is that if you have luck like mine that one person is the one that would ruin a good group. I have one of my 3rd character in Abadon's mouth and reached a grouping low.

I tried 3 groups and none of them was able to kill any seals inside the fort. That would be alright with me, I'm in no hurry and don't mind failing, but the groups were full of rude people.

One leech who never moved, one know it all shrieking, "nuke, nuke" and stuff like, "do you know this mission" but never any advice, and she aggro'd everything. Both groups had people leave at the very first death. Not even a serious death.

I finally just got hench and finished it the first try. I'm not that good, I don't like doing it with hench, it takes a long time and isn't nearly as fun.

I wish there was a check box you could click that said, "not in a hurry, and won't be rude even if we lose" so I could get my party members from that pool.

I'm about to stop doing quests with real people, because usually they have more than that one quest on their list. So you have to fight over which quest comes first, some people just log out after getting what they want even if they agreed to do all quests.

In addition to that, quest markers still don't update correctly when the quest is updated.
Yesterday I was doing Blood & <forgot> near Ventari's refuge (or was it AuroraGlade?).
You have to kill a boss, get his heart, bring it to some oak-guy and then return.

The workaround usually is: press L klick on another quest, klick on the quest your doing and the marker updates.
Try that when you only have one quest on your list.
And try to explain that to your team. They usually follow the marker, not knowing or not accepting that there's still a few bugs in the game, that cause the quest-marker not to get updated correctly.

The really big advantage with henchmen: you target, everybody listens.
Let's pray that aNet doesn't come up with a realism-patch to make the henchmen resemble humans who don't care what your targeting.

Btw, the following link might be of interest to anyone wanting to do "Bonus Only" missions, particularly issues #18 and #19...

Photics Fanzine

Now it will be easier to start "Bonus Only" groups, since you'll know what to do.

Edit: To keep it on topic, it's always easier to find a good human group when you're the one starting it, since you have control of the Kick function before entering the mission, and control of who to accept. Whisper people before accepting them, and once accepted, if they are rude, in too much of hurry, talking down or abusively to other people or basically being unresponsive, then kick them - better to do it before rather than during the mission.

I have played with both very nice and competent human teams and with bunchs of complete morons as well. I remember when I tried Thunderhead Keep with a PUG four times in a row and miserably failing every time because my group mates obviously didn't know how to correctly spell the word "discipline" - despite I already solved that mission several times over and repeatedly told them how to succeed there.

Did Thunderhead with two guild mates and rest all henchies after that and it went like a breeze then... Baseline: The henchies are stupid at times, but some humans soundly beat them regarding to this trait....

I really wish this site allowed signatures on posts. Because I have stated the following so many times it should be my mantra aloud:

"Grab an NPC robot, avoid morale rot"

I have had no problems gaining ground/levels/sp/exp with robots. None. Nada. Zip. Humans add conversation, little else, and most of that conversation is inconsequential at best.

I ended up doing thunderhead keep and Ring of fire with henchmen only with my third character (elementalist).

Having beaten the game once and having two other characters at the end I've noticed that not only are a substantial number of the human players in missions horrible at this game, but thier numbers are only getting larger.

My theory? Each mission is like a seive; the good players move through quickly, not having to do each mission more than a handful of times if not the first time, while the poorer players keep getting held back- so the more time goes by, the thicker the mass of poor players.

I've started holding off on doing missions until guildmates or friends that use voice chat (teamspeak/ventrilo) are online and looking to do the mission. Seems that people who use voicechat tend to be the better players, and at least don't suffer from lack of communication, creating a better team overall.

Just one thing to add to the directions..... Watch out for the Smoke Phantoms! They are like lvl 20 and use chain lightning spells. They pop up when you grab the tome, and in a few other areas as well. They are a tough fight especially if your group is not very high level, or don't have good teamwork.

Best reason why healer hench is better than 90% of all human monks:
Healer Henchies don't forget to heal you.

I was just recently in a mission where I was teamed up with a group that had 3 monks in it and me and 3 other random characters in it. At one time, I had 1 hit point left. I ended up running around for seriously over 20 seconds yelling, "Heal heal heal!" A W/Mo ended up casting healing breeze on me and ended up saving my butt.

Well once again I joined a PUG to do the Sanctum Clay mission. I needed the bonus. The last time I did the mission a few days ago I was the last one alive(barely) making a run for the boat and just making it for the team. BTW: I am playing my Mo/Ele lev 19.

We start out the mission. I clearly stated I want to do the bonus, but no problem helping with the mission. Soon as we start the group attacks ALL the Drakes. We somehow managed to kill them all. I had to admit my Firestorm, then Heal,Heal Heal...did the trick. We had another lev 13 Mo with us. I had to keep telling him to carry the Septre of Orr. I didnt need the extra energy as much as he needed it. Personally I do not like carrying things.

After we killed the Drakes they start running into the mission. I had to STOP them to tell them we missed the bonus part. A couple of them said: "So What.." Then I said: "I stated before we started I need the Bonus". The leader came back with me and we got the Ghost for the bonus. He is a decent guy I could tell. Then we were off on the mission again. Once again most of the group didn't heed my warnings of low energy and let me recharge for 30 seconds. The Leader understood this fully. One guy quit. Suppose he didn't like being told what to do. The "other" arrogant one just didn't listen at all and kept attacking new mobs before I was fully ready. They just don't realize that I am using allot of energy on trying to heal, smite hexes, and keep enchantments up and running on the tanks. It all adds up. Also to help finish off these mobs I have to resort to glyps of lesser energy then Firestorm.

We finally get to the bone Dragons. Once again after trying to keep them healed (The other lev 13 Monk has died a couple of times and is pretty useless by this point) I have to start Firestorming again. This drains mega energy. So we finally finish off Rotty and I ask again(I was always asking PLEASE WAIT) to stop and let me recharge before clicking on the lever. Heck no! It opens up and there are the Giants. So I ask: "What does please Wait mean?"
I am spamming my energy all the time BTW. The "other" player says: "We dont care about u energy" The Leader says: "you should" Then the "other" player says: "Suck what? you never have healed me" " By this point I am furious. I spent more energy on that person then anyone else. One, she is a warrior so that is a gimmie, Two, she was moving way too fast and died because she was out of my reach and I had to rez.

So I just dropped out. Didn't want too. I whispered an apology to the Leader. The "Fun" was way gone by that point. I added the Leader's name to my friends list. I will whisper him at some point to let him know I will work with him on another mission/quest to make up for this one.

I will not take any rude, vulgar behaviour from anyone anymore.

Seriously, though, and although I've completed the game with henches, it's just so much easier with humans. 1 reasonably good human = 4 henches, from a mission difficulty point of view.
You "just" have to avoid the asshats, which of course isn't always easy. Party with trusted guildies, RL friends, or be prepared to meet the occasional griefer.

One other way to teach people how bad they need the healer is to not heal for one more attack. Punishment: DP.
Maybe that's how they can learn the lesson.

You are correct. I did think seriously of doing just that, but by this time I was pretty darn angry. I was always taught to walk away while you are angry. Also I knew by the time they made it to the beach(if they made it) they would not live through it. You need a team effort there. Also I tried to whisper to the rude player to get things worked out, but she put me on ignore. That being said,it was not worth the hassle. It hurt me as well. I did not get the bonus completed.
